Whether you are a tax resident or not, you may need to prepare and file a Personal Income Tax Return.
Non-Habitual Tax Residency
Some people may benefit from the Non-Habitual Resident Regime. The programme was created, among other reasons, to attract expats that work in high value-add activities or earn income abroad. Once granted it is valid for ten years. Income obtained from a high value-add activity is taxed at a fixed rate of 20%. Also, income from dividends, interest and rents from other markets may not be subject to Portuguese tax regime.
